Childcare Health Consultant

  • Proof of current New York State Licensure as a Registered Nurse  
  • Initial visit to create or review Health Care Plan (HCP) 
  • Follow up HCP compliance site visit during first year of Consultant services 
  • Yearly NYS Office of Child and Family Required site visit to Child Daycare Program for review of Health Care Plan (HCP) and related practices and certifications which includes:


  1. a random sampling of: immunization records, daily health checks, medical forms and blue cards for children in care
  2. a review of Individual Health Care Plans for Children with Special Health Care Needs
  3. a review of MAT certificates and CPR/FA certifications for MAT staff signed on to programs health care plan as medication administrants
  4. observation of first aid kit contents for use in childcare setting
  5. review of medication consent forms and medication documentation logs
  6. medication administration procedure and medication storage practices
  7. as needed technical assistance by phone, email, text related to Health Care Plan issues and practices 


Medication Administration Training

  • In person 8 hour training 
  • 4 hour Independent Study training
  • 3rd online renewal skills competency testing

Additional Training as Required by NYS

  1. Principles of childhood development: appropriate supervision of children, meeting the needs of children enrolled with physical or emotional challenges, and behavior management and discipline
  2. Nutrition and health needs of children
  3. Child day care program development
  4. Safety and security procedures including communication between parents and staff
  5. Business records maintenance and management
  6. Child abuse and maltreatment identification and prevention
  7. Statutes and regulations pertaining to child day care
  8. Statutes and regulations pertaining to child abuse and maltreatment
  9. Identification, diagnosis, and prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome
  10. Adverse Childhood Experiences
